To obtain data needed, this quantitative study used two questionnaires. One questionnaire consisting of 37 was distributed to 60 students in ten junior high schools (JHS) for assessing the students’ motivation. The other one consisting of 67 main items was distributed to the 20 English teachers from the selected schools. The data were tabulated and then presented in Average Format. It was found that as whole both students’ motivation and the teachers’ professionalism were slightly influenced. Upon these findings, it is suggested that both the students and the teachers not be impacted on by the imposition of the NNEP. Motivation and professionalism should retain becuase learning is not just for national examination.

Key words: impact, national examination, motivation, professionalism
2017-07-21T01:50:00+08:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://ijolt.unram.ac.id/index.php/ijolt/article/view/21A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF SPACED AND MASSED TIME ALLOTMENT IN IMPROVING ENGLISH VOCABULARY OF THE STUDENTS OF MADRASAH ALIYAH DAKWAH ISLAMIYAH PUTRA NURUL HAKIM KEDIRI2017-07-21T02:50:15+08:00Musaddad Musaddad[email protected]
This research is aimed at finding if spaced time or massed time allotment can improve student’s vocabulary. Spaced time allotment can improve students’ vocabulary than massed time allotment. This experimental research was done at MA.DI.Pa Nurul Hakim Kediri in academic year 2016-2017. The total numbers of subject involved in this study were 49 students from science department classes. 26 students from IPA 1 were treated using spaced time allotment, and 23 students of IPA 2 were treated as massed time allotment. Spaced time allotment means students learned vocabularies in 45 minutes long then there was spaced approximately 8-9 hours. Students learned again in 45 minutes long. This run 10 times meeting while massed time allotment means students learned 90 minutes long without spaced time in it. This run 5 times meeting. The similarities of the two treatments are total time meeting and total vocabulary learned. The total time meeting of two treatments were 450 minutes and and the total vocabularies input were 100 vocabularies. The instrument employed in this research was multiple choice tests. It was found that the spaced time allotment is better than massed time allotment in improving students’ vocabulary. It was shown by the mean score 78.03 for IPA 1 or spaced time treatment while IPA 2 or massed time treatment obtained 66.37. There is a significant effect in gaining students’ vocabulary improvement. The t-count value (6.755) was higher than t-table value (2.704) in the significant level 0.05 with the degree of freedom (df) 22, Thus, the result of the research shows that the spaced time allotment is effective in improving students’ vocabulary than massed time allotment. The alternative hypoyhesis is accepted and null hypothesis is rejected. The spaced time allotment gives higher improvement in vocabulary mastery.

Key words: comparative, spaced time allotment, massed time allotment, improvement, English vocabulary
2017-05-15T00:00:00+08:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://ijolt.unram.ac.id/index.php/ijolt/article/view/22A DESCRIPTIVE STUDY ON CLASSROOM LANGUAGE USE: A STUDY AT SMA NEGERI 2 MATARAM2017-07-21T02:51:56+08:00Mukti Mukti[email protected]
Teacher talk is of crucial importance, not only for the organization of the classroom but also for the processes of acquisition. It is important for the organization and management of the classroom because it is through language that teachers either succeed or fail in implementing their teaching plans. In terms of acquisition, teacher talk is important because it is the major source of comprehensible target language input the learner is likely to receive. The purposes of this study were to investigate the amount of English used in the EFL classroom and discuss the amount of teacher talk time and the impact of teacher talk time on students’ participation in the classroom. Data for this study were purposively collected from observation and made the audio recording of the naturally occurring English classroom. Then, the data were transcribed by adopting Van Lier transcription system. In addition to the classroom recording, the data were also gathered through teacher interview and questionnaires for students. The results of the study showed that teachers involved in the study did not use English optimally in the classroom. Besides, they used teacher talk time excessively in the classroom that students had very limited time to practice using the target language. Therefore this study recommends that teachers should pay attention to their talk and talk time in order to increase students participation in the classroom.

Keywords: Teacher talk (TT), students talk (ST), teacher talk time (TTT), student talk time (STT), language acquisition, second language (L2)
2017-05-15T00:00:00+08:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://ijolt.unram.ac.id/index.php/ijolt/article/view/23THE CORRELATION BETWEEN MOTIVATION AND VOCABULARY MASTERY TO OMBAK SUNSET HOTEL EMPLOYEES’ SPEAKING SKILL IN GILI TRAWANGAN2017-07-21T02:51:59+08:00Nurlaily Nurlaily[email protected]
Since adult learners who are working in certain sector have different motivation, vocabulary needs and speaking ability from young learners, it is crucial to examine the relationship between those aspects in English learning context. This research was mix method research with explanatory sequential mixed methods design. The population of this study was 210 students at the second grade at SMPN 1 Pringgarata in academic year 2016/2017. The numbers of sample were 118 determined by simple random sampling. Interview, questionnaire, and tests item were instruments in this study. Analyzing the data used persentage and statistical analysis called Spearman Correlation in SPSS program. The result was the score of significant correlation was 0.048<0.05. It indicated that there was correlation between students’ attitudes and their abilities in English reading text. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha), clearly accepted. However, the correlation was very weak (0.182). In addition, most students had good attitude towards English reading texts and their very positive attitudes were towards narrative text. Moreover, students’ reasons for having positive attitudes towards descriptive, recount, and narrative texts were that they were easier to be understood. They liked reading recount texts were that they liked writing a diary and liked reading people’s experiences. Students’ reasons for having negative attitudes towards descriptive, recount, and narrative text were that those texts were too long and difficult to be understood.

Key Words: Attitudes, abilities, and English reading texts.
2017-05-15T00:00:00+08:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://ijolt.unram.ac.id/index.php/ijolt/article/view/28AN ANALYSIS OF SASAK SYNTACTIC STRUCTURE ON THE FORMS OF PASSIVIZATION AS USED IN NGENO-NGENE DIALECT AT RARANG VILLAGE OF EAST LOMBOK2017-07-22T04:35:30+08:00Lalu Mohamad Johandi[email protected]
This study dealt with syntactic structure on the forms of passivization in Sasak Ngeno-Ngene dialect at Rarang village of East Lombok. This was descriptive qualitative method. The ways of collecting the data in this study were by observation, interview, note taking, and cross cheking. The investigation is focused on what are the type(s) of passive forms on Ngeno-Ngene dialect at Rarang village of East Lombok, how is the rule of passivization in Sasak Ngeno-Ngene dialect at Rarang village of East Lombok, and how is the relational structure of passive in Sasak Ngeno-Ngene dialect at Rarang village of East Lombok. In Sasak Ngeno-Ngene dialect as used in Rarang village of East Lombok, there are two types of passive construction can be found, they consist of canonical and adversative construction. Canonical passive in Sasak Ngeno-Ngene dialect as used in Rarang village of East Lombok is marked by the prefix te- and followed by the verb base. Adversative passive in Sasak Ngeno-Ngene dialect as used in Rarang village of East Lombok is marked by the confix ke- -an on the verb base. Futher, in Sasak Ngeno-Ngene dialect as used in Rarang village of East Lombok, the passive expression may appear in passive –causative construction which is derived from the transitive causaative form. The passive – causative construction is marked by the prfix te- and suffix -ang as derived transitive causative marker. In this study, I reports that in Sasak Ngeno-Ngene dialect and Indonesian, there are several expressions treated as passive by linguists. However, those expressions appear clearly not in passive form. They actually appear in ergative form.

Key Word: Passivization, Syntactic Structure, Sasak Ngeno-Ngene Dialect, Passive Properties.
2017-05-15T00:00:00+08:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://ijolt.unram.ac.id/index.php/ijolt/article/view/40STUDENTS’ DIFFICULTIES AND THEIR PERCEPTIONS IN WRITING RECOUNT TEXT2017-08-07T01:02:24+08:00Musabbihin Musabbihin[email protected]
This study was aimed at finding out students’ difficulties and their perceptions in writing recount text : A study at the second year students of MA Muallimin NW Anjani in academic year 2016/2017.The most students’ difficulties in writing recount text found such as words choice, sentence structure, content and organization. They could be oral, acts, or artifacts. The traditions they have depends on typology of the people; how they live their daily life, what value they believe in, how they react to the environment, and what they inherit from their ancestors. People of Pujut have betandak as their unique oral tradition since it is only found in Pujut and not in other areas. In some parts of its lyrics, tandak is expressed in metaphoric words. It was intentionally managed to make puns and made it even more sarcastic even though the pun was meant to be a smooth innuendo that one found it hard to understand. To make it easier to understand, it is urgent to seek for the answers of betandak’s forms, meanings and significances to the people. Concerning the social phenomenon of betandak, this research will employ the qualitative research. It involves a set of interpretive, material practices which is making the world perceptible. These practices turn the world into a sequence of representations including field notes, interviews, discussion, pictures, recordings and memos. The nomenclature of tandak has never been the concern of Pujut people. However, the absence of concept of nomenclature gives a way for all people to come with the concept of their own and create names for it. The nomenclature, so far, is classified into three categories: Seasonal, Spatial, and Occasional.

Keywords: Betandak, Metaphors, Forms, Meanings, Significances
2017-05-14T00:00:00+08:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://ijolt.unram.ac.id/index.php/ijolt/article/view/43RHETORIC AND THE CASE OF LINEARISATION IN POST GRADUATE STUDENTS’ ESSAYS2017-08-23T02:22:09+08:00Herwanul Mukhlis[email protected]
This study pertained to analysis of rhetoric, linearization, and grammaticality within essays.
